Larry Fred Box was born on October 4, 1948, in Jasper, Alabama to Willie Fred and Mildred Norris Box. He was the oldest of 4 children, being preceded in death by his sister, Pam and survived by his brothers, Scott (Linda) and Lyndon (Lesleigh). Larry was raised in Rock City, graduating from Winfield City High School in 1966 and attending Walker College after high school. In October 1971, Larry began working on the railroad, and he would continue in that job for over 37 years, retiring in 2008. Larry loved to fish, to work crosswords, to keep up the house and to complain about Alabama not running the ball enough.

Larry met the love of his life, Charolette Webb, in 1969, and they were married on May 29, 1970. They were blessed with four sons, Michael (Stacey), Jared (Melissa), Jason (April), and Bart (Leslie), 13 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Austin), Jacob (Alana), Katherine, Rachel (Meyer), Jonathan, Abigail, Isaac, Joshua, Jesse, Susannah, Leah, Julia, and Noah, 3 great-grandchildren, Samuel, Matthew, and Adeline. Larry’s family was among his greatest joys. He spent his life in humble and tireless service to them, and their lives are forever marked by his care and love. Larry, Daddy and Poppy will be deeply missed.

Larry entrusted his life to Jesus as his Savior on December 13, 1977. His conversion to Christ impacted his earthly life in every way. The grace of Christ was evident in Larry’s life, and he never got over the wonder of being saved. Larry loved to hear the gospel, and that same gospel is the hope of his family now, “The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Corinthians 15:56-57).

Funeral services for Larry will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 12:00 noon from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon service time at the funeral home.
