Mr. Michael Henry Long, better known as Mike, age 71, of Winfield, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. Mike was born in Blytheville, Arkansas January 8, 1949.

Mr. Long is survived by his wife of 49 years, Loretta Smith Long, his children, Carter Long (Angie) of Winfield, Alison Stewart of Madison, AL, and Addie Franks of Northport, AL, grandchildren, Parker and Owen Long, Nathan and Sarah Stewart, and Oliver Franks, his mother, Kamolia Long of Arkansas, and a sister, Lyndee Reed (Dale) of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Long and a brother, Donald Long.

Mike was a member, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Winfield First Baptist Church. He was a 1966 graduate and basketball star at Blytheville High School in Blytheville Arkansas. Mike went on to play basketball for Arkansas State until being drafted for military service. He served for 7 years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his return from service, Mike began his career in Sikeston, MO with Sonic Drive. Shortly after, in 1975, Mike started his own restaurant, known today as The Cardinal Drive In. The Longs moved to Winfield in 1987 and continue to operate the Cardinal Drive In in Winfield. Mike was instrumental in helping to start Winfield’s little league basketball program in 1989. He was a fun, kindhearted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Funeral services for Mr. Long will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. from the Winfield First Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. (service time) at the church.  In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the; First Baptist Church of Winfield, building fund, P.
