Mr. Elbert Earl Ivie, Sr. of Winfield, AL passed away peacefully on August 17, 2021, at the age of 95, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Guin, AL. He was born on December 8, 1925. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Bostick, on September 8, 1945. During their 69 years of marriage, Dot and Ivie were rarely apart and served the Lord and their community well. Each day started with breakfast, devotional and prayer and their lives reflected that strong faith.

Ivie, along with his wife, owned and operated Ivie’s Supermarket in Winfield for many, many years. They were avid Alabama fans and attended every football and basketball game they could. They loved to travel with their family and friends to games and to various places throughout the United States. Ivie loved to play golf and was one of the initial members of Pikeville Country Club. When he wasn’t at the grocery store or church, you could find him on the golf course.

On October 4, 2020, he was honored with the title Deacon Emeritus of the Winfield First Baptist Church. He served 60 plus years as an active member of the Winfield Lions Club and presided in many official capacities during his time.

He is survived by his sons Elbert Earl Ivie, Jr (Barbara) and Michael Allen Ivie (Elizabeth) both of Winfield, AL; grandchildren Tabitha Lee (Robert), Michael Allen Ivie II, Everett, Benjamin, and Andrew Ivie; great-grandchildren Zachary Southern (Sam), Brody Southern and Elle Ivie as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents H. E. and Ethel Ivie; siblings, Laura Ann Rhody, and Sue Nell Mobley; granddaughter Jessica Carr Ivie; and his beloved wife of 69 years Dorothy Bostick Ivie.

Ivie will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in Winfield City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Lynn, Jimmy Dale Miles, Bill Atkinson’s Sunday School Class and members of the Winfield Lions Club. Many thanks to Country Place Assisted Living, Morning View Estates (formerly Morning Side of Fayette, AL), Kemp Meadows, Kindred Care Hospice and Dr. Ronnie Moss for the care each of you provided during his stay. He loved each and every one of you and we are forever grateful.

Funeral services for Mr. Ivie will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Winfield First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Winfield First Baptist Church and Winfield Methodist Church are appreciated.

Mr. Larry Gene Couch, age 67 of Fayette, formerly of Winfield passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021.
Larry was born in Sheffield, AL on April 5, 1954 to John Clinton and Lila Pauline Couch. He was a longtime member of Crossview Church in Fayette, AL, and a United States Air Force Veteran. Mr. Couch was a 1972 graduate of Marion County High School and was inducted into the Marion County Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. He retired from P & M Coal Mines in Berry.
Mr. Couch is survived by his wife of 49 years, Deborah Hamric Couch, his children, Kevin Couch (Amanda), Eric Couch (Cheryl), Lori Hubbert (Mark), Paige Williams-Phillips (Brian), Katie Barrett (Wesley), 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brothers, Tommy Couch, Kenneth Couch, Robert Couch (Sharon), sisters, Jennifer Cornett (John), Ramona Beach and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. and Lila Pauline Gann Couch, a sister, Kathy Marie Couch Walling and his father-in-law, M. L. Hamric.

Mr. John Danny Eads, age 38 of Winfield, formerly of Tallapoosa, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

John was born on January 7, 1983 in Rome, GA to Danny Eads and Carolyn Ballew. He attended Haralson County High School in Tallapoosa, GA and Hamilton High School in Hamilton, AL. John was a truck driver for over 20 yrs. He loved his family dearly and was always willing to help anyone who asked. John was a caring, and loving man with a heart of gold.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Ballew, and a sister, Cheri Finley both of Tallapoosa, GA., grandparents, Johnny and Adele Ballew of Tallapoosa, GA and Daniel” Richard” and Jane Eads of Hamilton, AL.

He is survived by his father Danny Eads of Winfield, AL, stepmother, Carolyn Bishop Eads of Glens, MS, sisters, Brandi Ledbetter (Lee) and Chrissy Youngblood (Dustin), both of Winfield, his twin brother, Jim Eads (Ann) of Tallapoosa, GA, nephews, Connor Goodson (Briana), Dawson Youngblood, Jagger Youngblood, W. L. Spray, Blake Williford and nieces, Braylee Ledbetter, Chloe Williford, Ciera Eads, and Lacy Eads, special friends that he considered family, Eva Stansell and Mary Mullinax.

A memorial service for John will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at 2 pm from Bowen Funeral Home Chapel in Winfield, AL. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p. m. (service time) at the funeral home.  Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the Eads family.

Mr. Ray Alexander, age 86 of Winfield passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021.

Ray was born on August 24, 1934 in Beaverton, Alabama to Clyde Alexander and Mary Helen Weeks Alexander. He was a member of the Winfield First United Methodist Church. Ray was a 1952 graduate of Sulligent High School and a proud 1956 graduate of Auburn University. Mr. Alexander was owner/operator of Alexander Drugs in Winfield for 40 years, continuing service to his customers well after the close of business day. Upon selling his drug store, he worked as a fill-in pharmacist in various locations. Ray was very involved with the Kiwanis Club in Winfield; he and Dr. Aubrey Sewell worked together in forming the Mid-Day Kiwanis Club. During his time with Kiwanis International, Ray held many offices and served the organization in many statewide capacities. Ray was also an active member of Gideons International, serving this organization until his death, most recently with the Lamar County Camp.  Mr. Alexander was a true servant; he was always contributing to and serving for these organizations in various ways and roles for many years. Mr. Alexander was a true Auburn man, a wearer of brightly colored clothing, soft-spoken, a fan of vocabulary, loyal to Beaverton, loved his wife Mary deeply, and loved his children and grandchildren, his church, and his God.

He is survived by his daughter, Jill Satcher of Northport, AL, sons, Tom Alexander (Cindy) of Havelock, NC and Chuck Alexander of Madison, AL, his grandchildren, Jeremy Satcher, Daniel Satcher, Janie Alexander DeWitt (Vince) and Hannah Alexander and sisters, Judy Alexander of Hamilton, AL and Phyllis Alexander of Seneca, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and other close relatives and friends.  Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by wife, Mary Helen Hollis Alexander, his parents, Clyde and Mary Helen Weeks Alexander, a sister, Sue Anderson and daughter-in-law, Lydia Campbell Alexander.

Funeral services for Mr. Alexander will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Winfield First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. (service time) at the church.   In lieu of flowers the family request a donation to Gideons International for Bibles, or a gift to the Winfield First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund at P. O. Box 387 Winfield, AL 35594, to be made in Ray’s memory. The Alexander family prefer that mask or face cover be worn during the visitation and funeral services for Mr. Alexander but is not required.
