Mrs. Nettie Lou Godsey, age 81, of Winfield passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at her residence. Mrs. Godsey was born at her home in Nauvoo, Alabama on January 9, 1943 to Arthur Borden and Elouise Dill. Nettie was a member of the Winfield Freewill Baptist Church and a vital servant of the community and Christ. She ran the church food and clothing pantry for many years helping countless people in their time of need. Nettie was employed with Health-Tex of Guin and Tullahoma of Brilliant for many years. After marrying the love of her life Mack and having a family Nettie became a home maker and sold Avon, Amway, Tupperware and cleaned houses to help her family. She also took care of many elderly people in the community. Her first love was always her husband, children, grandchildren, home, and church. She always worked very hard to make these a priority in her life. In her spare time Nettie enjoyed keeping her home, cooking, mowing grass, working in the garden, freezing and canning vegetables and tending her beautiful flower gardens.

Mrs. Godsey is survived by her daughter, Tawana McCrory of Russellville, grandchildren, Hayden Michael McCrory of Russellville, Carter Bailey Godsey of Winfield, and Elizabeth Grace Godsey of Jasper, brothers, Arthur Dill of Columbia, SC., Jimmy Henslee of Eldridge, and Billy Henslee of Nauvoo, sister, Brenda Martin of Jasper, niece Deb Legg of Nauvoo, special friends, Jill Alston of Gadsden, Geno Garner of Russellville, Joe Reed, Ronnie and Linda McClusky, Martha Humbers, Patsy Weeks, Bobbie Livingston, Robert Gillion, Charles and Anne Lynn, and Gwen Fields all of Winfield, Linda Cornelius of Double Springs, Rhonda and Chris Gilmore of Detroit AL and a host of other family members, church family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Godsey was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Willie Mack Godsey, an infant daughter, grandmother, Effie Dill, sisters, Estelle Carver and May Cheshire, and brother, Bobby Henslee.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Dr. Sengar and his staff at the Alabama Cancer Care Center of Winfield, Brookwood Medical Center of Birmingham, and Burns Nursing and Rehab of Russellville.

Serving as pallbearers are Brad Bowles, Kyle Lowery, Colby Moore, Jon Bowen, Bryan Everette, Nathan Roby and honorary pallbearers, Benny Everett and Dale Watkins.

Funeral services for Nettie will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the West Alabama Memorial Gardens in Gu-Win. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
