Amanda Gardner South (aka Babe, Sister, Wife, Sweet Pea, Bunky, Mando) was a free spirit with a loving compassionate heart. She left this world suddenly and way too soon on April 24, 2022 at the age of 40. She was so beloved and will be forever missed by her family and friends.
Amanda was raised in Winfield, Alabama and graduated from Winfield City High School class of 2000. She then attended Auburn University where she received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Harrison School of Pharmacy in 2008. Upon returning to Winfield, she reconnected with and soon after married her husband, Jonathan South. Together, they had 3 fur-babies: DaVinci, Zeiss, and Tully.
Amanda had a passion for music, animals, jewelry, and fashion – and she was an avid collector of these. She loved going to concerts and spent much time traveling to various states just to hear her favorite bands. She had a soft spot for animals – especially those in need. She could not pass a wandering lost dog without stopping or watch an ASPCA commercial without tears…and likely donating as well. Amanda had a style that was all her own. She loved jewelry and fashion and spent many hours shopping and flipping through the latest fashion magazines. She was rarely without a hat – typically a newsboy, wide-brim, or boggan – she rocked it all.
Amanda had a fierce love for her husband, family and friends and she delighted in giving them gifts and finding ways to express her love. But her final gift of organ donation to the Legacy of Hope was made for those she did not know and serves as testimony to all the love and compassion she had in her heart.
She leaves behind her husband, Jonathan South, her parents, Becky and Russell Carothers and John and Wilda Gardner, her siblings, Julia Gardner, Melissa Beard (Bob), Russ Carothers (Stephanie), Chris Carothers (Brandi), her parents-in-law, Johnny and Yvonne South, her sister-in-law, Brandice South Lewis (Charlie), brother-in-law, Greg Youngblood and a host of other family and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Winfield on Friday, April 29, 2022. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until service at 2:00 pm with private burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. Bowen Funeral Home of Winfield serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Marion County Humane Society in memory of Amanda.
