Ms. Catherine I. Grant, better known as “Kat”, age 95, of Winfield passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 in the Diversicare Nursing Facility. Ms. Grant was born on July 11, 1928 to George and Alfa Cook Sullins. Kat was a member of the East Winfield Church of Christ. She was employed for many years with Dr. Mann as a dental assistant before her retirement. In her spare time Cat enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling, caring for family members, and shopping on Publisher’s Clearing House.

Ms. Grant is survived by her son, Jeff Grant and his wife Gretta of Conroe TX, grandchildren, Christina Arthur (Eric), Jarod Grant, Matthew Grant, Dwayne Melton (Judy), Misty Melton, Leanne Melton, and Steven Melton, a host of great and great-great grandchildren and other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents Ms. Grant was preceded in death by her husband, Leamon Melton, son Billy Joe Melton, granddaughters, Karen Renea McAndrew and Kristy Jo Melton, and siblings, Gene Sullins, Morris Sullins, and Shirley Farris.

Funeral services for Ms. Grant will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Center United Methodist Church Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. service time at the funeral home.

On the clear, crisp, cool morning of October 16, 2023 Audrey Charlene Baccus made the transition from this life into the next. She was born the middle child of five on February 11, 1937. She married Charles Rayburn Baccus on July 16, 1955 not long after she graduated High School in Winfield. They were married 65 years. Charlene’s greatest love and joy was for her family. She will be greatly missed but the healing of heaven and her faith in Christ give the family comfort, especially after dealing with pancreatic cancer for the last couple of years.

Charlene is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rayburn Baccus, an infant daughter, Pricilla, parents, John Pearson and Audrey Humber, her brothers, Pearson Melvin and John Louie Humber. She is survived by her sisters, Lurene Corkren and Ilene Hayes, her son Rev. Steve Baccus and his wife Donna, daughter, Denise Starbird and husband Edwin, her grandchildren Matthew Baccus and his wife Mary Beth, and Christina Starbird. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren Anslee, Addie, and Raylan, and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held at Bowen Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 19. There will be a time of visitation with the family from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Please send no flowers. Donations in Charlene’s honor may be made out to HOPE Church, 805 Crest Drive, Gardendale, Alabama 35071, or to the Grigg’s Place Cemetery fund.

Mrs. Jewell Dean McQuaig Lawrence, age 87 of Winfield passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2023 in the DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Jewell was born on April 8, 1936 in Haleyville, Alabama to William and Vaudie Burleson McQuaig.

Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the Hillcrest Church of Christ and a 1955 graduate of Winfield City High School. Jewell was employed for over 20 years with Clifford Industry and was co-owner of Lawrence Funeral Home in Winfield for 30 years. She enjoyed working in her flowers and sewing.

Mrs. Lawrence is survived by her grandson, Tyler Lawrence of Winfield, and her great grandson and pride and joy, Bradon Lawrence of Macon, MS, her daughter in law, Tina Smith (Neal) of Macon, MS, nephew, Bruce McQuaig and a host of other nieces, nephews, church family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Lawrence, her son, Randy Lawrence, her parents, and brothers, Bill and Jim McQuaig.

A private family graveside service was held for Mrs. Lawrence from the Winfield City Cemetery.

Mrs. Judy Faye Hall, age 72, of the Hubbertville Community passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at her residence. Mrs. Hall was born in Fayette County, Alabama on November 25, 1950 to William Burton and Ruby Frances Dozier Smith. She was a member of the Hubbertville Church of Christ and a 1969 graduate of Hubbertville High School. After high school she furthered her education at Brewer State Community College in Fayette. Judy spent much of her life as a home maker and as a bus driver for the Fayette County School System before her retirement. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, shopping and taking care of her grandchildren.

Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband of 56 years, Johnny Hall, children, Amy Hall (Curtis), and Jonathan Hall (Sherry), grandchildren, Cody Whitehead, Courtney Gardner (Cody), Devin Lane (Desiree), Lavin Johnson (Mikey), and Faith Hall, great-grandchildren, Lane Ethridge, Peyton Gardner, Caroline Yerby, Cooper Lane, Chandler Whitehead, Kendall Johnson, Evalyn Jones, Stella Johnson, and Adalyne Lane, sisters, Marie Tucker and Gail Lewis, sister-in-law, Diane Smith, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charlton, Arthur C., William “Bill”, and David Smith, sisters, Juanita, Joanne, and Janice Smith, sister-in-law, Janet Hall Berryhill, brother-in-law, Terry Tucker, parents-in-law, J.P. Hall and Inez Hall Herren, and nephews, Nick and Jason Smith.

Funeral services for Judy will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Hubbertville Church of Christ Cemetery. The visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
