Mrs. Margaret Erwin Spann, age 82, of Winfield, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family. Mrs. Spann was born on March 5, 1937 to Alton and Ora Collins Erwin. Margaret was a 1955 graduate of Winfield City High School. She was later employed with the Winfield City School system and the Winfield City Library for many years.

Mrs. Spann is survived by her husband of 65 years, Parker Earnest Spann, her daughters, Libby Dobbins (Dennis) of Winfield, Margie Spann Parker of Madison, MS and Susan Burnett (Freddie) of Winfield, brother in law, Raymond Spann (Hazel Ann), nieces and nephews, Chuck Spann (Julie) of Winfield, April O’Neal (Chris) of Winfield and Cindy Holmes (Garry) of Fayette. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton Erwin and Ora Collins Erwin and an infant son.

Funeral services for Mrs. Spann will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from the Winfield First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Winfield City Cemetery. Dr. Paul Murphy and Bro. Raymond Spann will be the officiating ministers. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. (service time) at the church. Bowen Funeral Home serving the Spann family.

Simon David Manasco, infant son of Brian Manasco and Savannah Taylor, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019 in the Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper.

He is survived by his parents, Brian and Savannah of Winfield, brothers, Nolan and Sawyer Taylor, grandparents, David and Karen Manasco of Winfield, Joe and Rachel Foster of Guin, great grandparents, Raymond and Wanda Taylor of Hamilton and Ricky and Beth Holmes of Hamilton, uncle, Brandon Manasco (Brandy) of Winfield and a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his great grandmother, Hazel Bryant.

A graveside service for Simon will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Winfield City Cemetery. Brother Keith Box and Brother Mark Moore will be the officiating ministers. Dessie Mae Roberts, age 81, of Jasper formerly of Winfield, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2019 at her granddaughters’ residence in Jasper. Dessie was born on February 19, 1938 in Jasper, AL to Carlos and Frances Weeks Patterson. She is survived by her daughters, Diane Nygren of Columbus, MS, Carolyn Smothers of Winfield and Jeannie Denson (Tony) of Arley, ten grandchildren, Melissa, Carrie, Jody, Lexxy, Maxx, Elyssa, Pattrick, Jessie, Gage and Kolton, ten great grandchildren, Ashley, Malina, Colin, Bryston, Clayton, Kynnzee, Bynntlee, Joey, Ivy and Autumn, sister, Robbie Hayes of Fayette and a step sister, Bobbie Jean, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her a daughter, Melinda Proffitt, her parents, Carlos Patterson and Frances Weeks Graham and a brother, Robert Graham. Funeral services for Mrs. Roberts will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in the Union Chapel cemetery in Winfield. Mrs. Betty Jean Soucy, age 70, of Winfield, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 in the UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. Betty was born on January 24, 1949 in Winfield, AL to Robert Walker and Eulene Thompson Walker. Betty first earned a degree in Cosmetology, but her love was always helping others, she later earned her certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was employed with Beverly Health Care Center in Winfield for 20 years until her retirement. She loved her children and grandchildren, going to yard sales, thrift stores and collecting trinkets.

Betty is survived by her husband, Joe Soucy of Brilliant, her daughters, Kim Gosa (Lyn Lawson) of Winfield, Cindy Avery (Scott) of Brilliant, Tanya Wallace (Doug) of Austin , TX and Amanda Barnett (Dusty) of Brilliant, grandchildren, Ethan McCluskey (fiancé, Carley Anthony), Jacob , David, Daniel, Isaac, Isaiah and Leslie Wallace, Carrington and Marlee Barnett, Ty and Tuck Avery and Zackary Gosa-Lewis, a great grandchild, Kopen Brett McCluskey (on the way) and two sisters, Donna Tittle of Brilliant and Pat Flanagan of Brilliant. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eulene Walker, a grandson, Isaac Seth Vann, and her brother, James Carol Walker

Funeral services for Betty will be held on Monday, September 2, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. from the Bowen Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
